This ride takes one across the Wallachian plains and remains of the once extensive Vlăsia Woods: Bolintin Forest with the straight Linia Mare trail crossing it from the South to the North, especially enjoyable in spring time or during the fall. It is then on by River Argeș to Potlogi. The town hosts a few interesting early 20th century merchant houses plying the main East - West road, but the highlight is Constantin Brâncoveanu’s palace set in 1698 on the site of a former landlord manor. Entering the yard, with the palace straight ahead, you will definitely notice the exquisite loggia with its carved stone panels and columns. At a closer look, the Persian style, pale blue decorations around the windows will reveal themselves. Once inside the palace, have a look at the same style stucco decorations set around the windows. On the opposite side (towards the pond) there is a double loggia. The palace lies in a vast yard, together with the ruins of the old landlord manor set around 1680, the kitchen (Ro. cuhnia) and the servant quarters set at the same time with the palace proper. Note that, as of April 2013, the palace was in much needed restoration works and access was officially forbidden, but you might get a peek around the palace and the yard if politely asking the very nice local guards. The ride then takes you back into Bucharest on a different route, across fields and rather quiet villages. Most of the ride is on asphalt, except the Bolintin Forest part and a section past Poiana Village, which go along dirt roads or field trails that can be (very) muddy during or following rainy days. A 114 km. bike ride, with the track available on my Tracks page or directly here.
