Even overshaded by the higher Bihor, Vlădeasa and Gilău-Muntele Mare in the neighbourhood, the Torockó / Trascău have their popular spots which can turn quite crowded, such as Torda / Turda Gorges, Székelykő / Piatra Secuiului Peak, Remete / Râmeți Gorges, Igeni / Ighiel Lake. Trek past these places however and it won’t take long before you find yourself all alone in the woods or across some bucolic pasture dotted by hay roof summer cottages, with tourist marks fading to the verge of extinction and only the rare shepherd as company. Last, but not least, a North - South trek will include a good share of ups and downs with several valleys to cross. Therefore, endurance is the name of the game even in a mountain that rarely goes over 1200 m.a.s.l. Cycling can be easily done along those long valleys cutting across the mountain, or on the Southern ridge from Kecskekő / Piatra Craivei on Westwards. For ideas of cycling and trekking routes in these mountains and not only, refer to my GPS track page.
