Come to Romania and head to the Retezat, Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Făgăraș or Rodna and local people will appreciate your experience. But come to Romania and head to the Perșani; in the not very likely situation people will actually know these mountains actually exist or where they lie, you won’t stir much attention. Mostly wooden, low (1104 m.a.s.l. on Cetății Peak), lacking impressive rocky ridges, dramatic gorges or glacial lakes, the Perșani make it for a break from people (except for the odd forest ranger, you’re not likely to meet anyone when up there), respectively unexpected encounters: on a single day bike ride there I met bears, boars, deers and a plethora of birds. For ideas of cycling or trekking routes in these mountains and not only, refer to my GPS track page.
