Jiu Valley is bordered by some of the finest mountains for trekking in Romania: the Parâng and the Retezat. The second highest mountains in Romania, the Parâng (2519 m.) feature rocky ridges, as well as glacial valleys or the highest road in the country, the Transalpina (going up to 2145 m. in Urdele Pass). One could hardly find a better mountain bike trail in this country even though they are putting asphalt on it nowadays, the bastards... For ideas of cycling and trekking routes in these mountains and not only, refer to my GPS track page.
