Long, smooth hills or mountains - call them as you may - that make up the natural border between pastures or woods belonging to different owners; there is no wonder one often walks along rudimentary wood fences set up along the ridge. With a double emphasis on the 'long' issue, this would say it pretty well about the three Obcine, tucked off in the Northern part of the country, reaching the Ukrainian border. Of these, the Obcina Mestecăniș is the shortest (which still stands for an over 50 km. long affair) and possibly the most scenic, with its extensive pastures, enchanting forests and picturesque hamlets or Huțul horse ranches. The mountain rolls smoothly Southwards all the way to Mestecăniș Pass, only a few times reaching more than 1500 m.a.s.l. Save for those strong (and many) shepherd dogs, this is a true cyclist's (or, why not, a horse rider's) paradise.
