Not the shortest of the three larger Obcine (which is the Obcina Mestecăniș) and sharing about the same length with the third of the range (the Obcina Feredeu), the Obcina Mare is an almost 60 km. long, continuous ridge featuring many peaks separated by relatively high saddles. The most striking thing about it however lies in the fact that, except a few bigger clearings (such as the Poiana Ursului and the Poiana Oglinda), the main ridge of the Obcina Mare is completely wooden, be it about birch, fir tree or pine forests. Trekking and cycling are at their finest here, especially for those not looking for heights (as the Obcina Mare, the lowest of the three above mentioned obcine, is topped by Sihloaia Peak at 1224 m.a.s.l.), but rather for nature, remote trails and taking the time to think it all over. And over. For ideas of cycling and trekking routes in these mountains and not only, refer to my GPS track page.
